The difference between a portrait and a headshot

Many clients ask what is the difference between a portrait and a headshot. The main differences are:

A headshot will have greater focus on the head and shoulders - a portrait will include more of the subject, and often some of the surroundings
A headshot will have more eye contact, this helps to build trust and connection with the subject
Where they are used: headshots are used for profile images, or ‘About Us’ sections on a website. Portraits are used to tell a story about an event or product

Portraits are generally more insightful than headshots, and tell more of a story about your business. They will include more of the subject, and often a little bit of their working environment. Portraits can be taken in your business premises, and help clients to form an impression of your business via the surroundings. It is therefore a good idea to choose these surroundings carefully, but we will be able to advise you on this.
